Maersk Inaugurates First Low GHG Emissions Warehouse in Denmark

Maersk has celebrated the launch of its first low greenhouse gas emission warehouse in Taulov Dry Port, Denmark. This groundbreaking facility, constructed in less than two years, represents a significant step towards Maersk’s goal of achieving net-zero CO2 emissions by 2040. Built to BREEAM Excellent standards, the warehouse features zero direct emissions, electrified equipment, solar panels, and plans for hydrogen stations nearby. This new logistics hub will enhance Maersk’s operations in the Nordics, providing integrated logistics solutions with easy access to key infrastructure.

Maersk Launches First Low-Emission Warehouse in Denmark

Less than two years ago, Maersk began construction on its first low-greenhouse-gas-emission warehouse in Denmark, situated at Taulov Dry Port in Fredericia. On June 24, 2024, the facility was officially inaugurated, marking the occasion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by customers, local authorities, and partners, followed by a tour of the new site.

This facility, Maersk’s first low-emission warehouse, sets new international benchmarks for developing sustainable warehouses and logistics facilities, aligning with the company’s goal of achieving net-zero CO2 emissions across its operations by 2040. It will also play a key role in Maersk’s logistics network in the Nordics, enhancing the handling of cargo arriving by road, sea, and air.

“We have created a true logistics hub strategically positioned in the heart of the Danish Triangle Region,” said Birna Ödefors, Managing Director Nordics at Maersk. “This facility will serve as a new centre of gravity, offering easy access to key infrastructure elements – ports, rail, and road, as well as our air hub in Billund. It exemplifies integrated logistics solutions, which are central to Maersk’s strategy. More importantly, it directly addresses the needs of our customers, many of whom operate distribution centres and production facilities in the area.”

The project is a collaborative venture between Maersk and Taulov Dry Port, the landowner. The warehouse was constructed to BREEAM Excellent standards, ensuring zero direct emissions from its operations.

“It is a great honour to inaugurate Maersk’s new warehouse at Taulov Dry Port,” said Rune D. Rasmussen, CEO of ADP A/S, operator of the Port of Fredericia and Taulov Dry Port (in a joint venture with PFA Pension). “Maersk recognized the strategic value of establishing its storage facility at Denmark’s multimodal transportation hub. Our successful collaboration has now entered a new phase, and we look forward to its continued growth.”
