UK to Require 10% Sustainable Aviation Fuel in Jet Fuel Mix by 2030

The UK government has confirmed its target of mandating at least 10% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in the UK jet fuel mix by 2030, as part of its efforts to decarbonize the aviation sector and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. SAF, derived from sustainable resources, is recognized as a key tool for reducing emissions in the aviation industry, with potential lifecycle GHG emissions reductions of up to 85%. Despite facing challenges such as limited supply and higher costs compared to conventional fuels, the government aims to accelerate SAF adoption, with targets set to gradually increase SAF usage. The plan also includes measures to mitigate potential consumer impacts and stimulate investment in the SAF industry. Transport Secretary Mark Harper emphasized that these measures will support economic growth, job creation, and sustainable air travel for the future.
