GRI has partnered with Climate & Company, a global non-profit think-tank focused on sustainable finance, to advance the adoption of international sustainability reporting standards across the value chain. This collaboration, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aims to enhance informed decision-making for companies, investors, and other stakeholders.
Climate & Company bridges policy-making, the financial sector, and academia, providing strategic guidance to implement regulatory standards effectively. Under this MoU, GRI and Climate & Company will align their values, mission, and vision to drive key initiatives, including:
- Supporting Impact Reporting: Promoting the use of GRI Standards to address the impact component of the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) and encouraging greater disclosure by SMEs and value chain participants globally.
- Coalition Building: Hosting events and engagements to advocate for the adoption of rigorous sustainability standards, like the GRI Standards, as authoritative tools for managing environmental and human rights impacts.
- Joint Funding Proposals: Collaborating on funding proposals to align stakeholders and resources towards deeper engagement on sustainability reporting, with a focus on the EU and G20 regions.
The MoU was signed during Climate Week NYC in September. As a next step, GRI and Climate & Company plan to co-host an event addressing the challenges and opportunities of climate reporting at the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Baku this November.
