The European Union has officially enacted the updated Construction Products Regulation (CPR), replacing the 2011 framework to modernize the construction industry and enhance competitiveness across the EU Single Market.
A key feature of the new regulation is the introduction of Digital Product Passports, offering detailed data on product performance, safety, and sustainability. These digital tools will enable accurate carbon footprint calculations for entire buildings, supporting more transparent and eco-friendly construction practices.
“The regulation helps builders, architects, engineers, consumers, and public authorities make informed choices based on the performance and sustainability of construction products,” the EU Commission stated.
Additionally, the regulation encourages prefabricated and modular construction methods, which are projected to:
Reduce construction waste by 10–15% during manufacturing.
Enhance circularity by enabling disassembly and reuse of materials.
Accelerate housing projects with lower costs and faster timelines.
This modernization aligns with the EU’s goals to drive sustainable innovation, boost productivity, and minimize the environmental impact of the construction sector.
