EFRAG Launches Public Consultation on Simplified ESRS Drafts

July 31, 2025: EFRAG has released revised Exposure Drafts of the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), marking a major step towards simplifying corporate sustainability reporting across Europe.

Following the European Commission’s March 2025 request, these revisions respond to widespread stakeholder feedback to ease the reporting burden—particularly for smaller and mid-sized entities—while preserving the standards’ core ambitions.

What’s New?

    • Mandatory data points cut by 57%
    • Total data points reduced by 68%
    • Length of the standards reduced by over 55%
  • Key Improvements:
    • Clearer structure and simplified double materiality guidance
    • Elimination of voluntary disclosures
    • New reliefs for high-cost/low-benefit disclosures
